The Presbyterial Ordination should fall within the Mass immediately before the Peace. The deacons and lay-readers should prepare the altar area for the Ordination. The Bishop's throne should be placed in front of the altar rail gate and a deacon or priest should stand just to the right of the throne.
Presbyterial Ordination
The Bishop takes his seat before the altar. All are seated, the ordinand comes forward and a person appointed for the purpose presents him to the Bishop.
Presenter: Right Reverand Father, our holy mother the church catholic prays that you would ordain this deacon here present to the charge of the priesthood.
Bishop: Do you know him to be worthy?
Presenter: As far as human frailty allows me to judge, I do both know and attest that he is worthy of the charge of this office.
Bishop: Thanks be to God.
The ordinand is then seated and the Bishop charges the clergy and people as follows:
Bishop: Dear friends in Christ, you know the importance of this ministry, and the weight of your responsibility in presenting Name for ordination to the sacred priesthood. Therefore if any of you know any impediment or crime because of which we should not proceed, come forward, and make it known.
After a pause, the Bishop addresses the people as follows:
Bishop: Is it your will that this Deacon be ordained Priest?
Congregation: It is.
Bishop: Will you uphold him in his ministry?
Congregation: We will.
The Bishop then addresses the ordinand.
Bishop: My dear son in Christ, it is now my solemn duty, before the irrevocable act shall be accomplished which shall lay upon you the sweet but heavy burden of the priesthood, to charge you how great is the dignity and responsibility of this office and how weighty are the duties to be performed by those thus ordained. As Deacon you have previously affirmed the efficacy of the Holy Scriptures, the Nicene Creed, and the Ecumenical Councils of the undivided Church. Equally you have vowed to perform the functions of the Diaconate in obedience to your Bishop and the Anglican Rite Archdiocese of the Americas-Celtic Rite. It will shortly appertain to you as a member of the priesthood to offer sacrifice, to bless, to preside, to loose and to bind, to anoint, to preach, and to baptize. I exhort you to always call to remembrance that you will be an almoner of Christ's blessing and a bearer of His love to the hearts of mankind. Never forget how great a privilege is yours to bring the little ones and the lost to Christ through Holy Baptism and to proclaim the lifting of the heavy burden of the sorrow and sin of the world by Christ's grace of absolution. Forasmuch as you will now be called upon to offer the holy sacrifice before the throne of God and to celebrate the sacred mysteries of the Lord's love, be earnest in your zeal for perfection in Jesus Christ. Let your teaching be a spiritual remedy for God's people. Let your words be of blessing and consolation. Let the sweet savor of your life be a fragrance in the church of God.
The ordinand rises.
Bishop: Will you strive to use worthily the powers entrusted to you?
Ordinands: I will.
Bishop: The Lord keep you in all these things, well-beloved son, and strengthen you in all goodness.
Congregation: Amen.
The bishop rises and addresses the people.
Bishop: Let us pray, dear brethren, that almighty God, in His great and loving-kindness and watchful care over His Church, may bestow a plentiful grace on this His Deacon, now about to be raise to the order of the Priesthood.
The people stand and the ordinand lies prostrate while the Adoramus Te is sung. A period of silent prayer follows, the people still standing.
All now are seated. The ordinands kneel before the Bishop who says this Prayer of Consecration:
Bishop: God and Father of all, we praise you for your infinite love in calling us to be a holy people in the kingdom of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is the image of your eternal and invisible glory, the firstborn among many brethren, and the head of the Church. We thank you that by His death, He has overcome death, and, having ascended into heaven, has poured His gifts abundantly on your people, making some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry and the building up of His body.
Here the Bishop lays hands upon the the head of each ordinand and prays:
Bishop: Therefore, Father, through Jesus Christ your Son, give your Holy Spirit to Name; fill him with grace and power, and make him a Priest in your Church. Name, receive the Holy Spirit for the office and work of a priest in the church of God. You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. In the name of the Father (+), and of the Son (+), and of the Holy Spirit (+).
Ordinand: Amen.
The Bishop then continues:
Bishop: May he exalt you, O Lord, in the midst of your people; offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to you; boldly proclaim the Gospel of salvation; and rightly administer the Sacraments of the New Covenant. Make him a faithful pastor, patient teacher, and wise counselor. Grant that in all things he may serve without reproach, so that your people may be strengthened and your Name glorified in all the world. All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, forever and ever.
Congregation: Amen.
The new Priests is now vested.
Bishop: Receive the priestly vestment, that you may offer with our Lord Christ the most holy sacrifice of His sacred Body and Blood.
The Bishop anoints the hands of the new Priest with holy oils.
Bishop: Be pleased, O Lord, to consecrate and hallow these hands by this anointing and our (+) blessing; that whatever they (+) bless may be blessed and whatever they consecrate may be consecrated and hallowed, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Congregation: Amen.
The new Priest stands and the Bishop then greets the newly ordained with a holy kiss and asks for his blessing.
The new priests then say to the congregation:
The peace of the Lord be with you.
Congregation: And with your spirit.
The new priest then greets the people, the altar area is then prepared for Holy Eucharist and the service continues with Holy Communion.
